Healthcare

Healthcare in Denmark makes provision for all children and young people between the ages of 0 and 18.
Opdateret 01.11.2017

The health care visitor's job is to provide general promotion of health, along with preventive measures, for all children and young people from ages 0 - 18, in their homes, nurseries, daycare institutions and schools. Anyone with questions, e.g. parents, families, teachers, youth workers or child minders, can contact Health Care.

The aim is to promote health and welfare but also to ensure extra assistance for the children and young people who are in particular need of it.

Provision for the parents of young children

All families with newborn children are offered a home health visit within one week of their arriving home from the hospital. The health visitor is informed of the birth via the midwife, and will thereafter initiate contact with the family.

  • the health visitor will evaluate, together with the family, whether the next contact - to take place when the child is around 1 or 2 months old - should take place in the home, or with a health care worker consultation (by arranged consultation)
  • All parents of small children are offered a dietary consultation, when the child is between 4 and 6 months old
  • All families of small children are offered a home health visit, when the child is around 8 months old.

Collaboration

The Health Care Worker works along with the parents first and foremost. By arrangement with the parents, the Health Care Worker works together with, for example, midwives, pediatric departments, GPs, nurseries, daycare, case workers, psychologists, physiotherapists, and speech & hearing consultants.

Personnel in Health Care

Health Care Workers deal with issues of family health regarding children and babies. As well as a background in nursing, and experience of working in a pediatric department, Health Care Workers have a higher education with emphasis in offering support and guidance to parents and children. Health Care Workers operate according to health legislation.

The General telephone number for Health Care is open every day from 12.00 - 13.00, on tel: 27 90 55 46
