Health Insurance Card (the yellow healthcare system card)
All inhabitants in Denmark are registered in the Civil Registration System (CPR). If you move to Denmark you must therefore contact the municipality in which you live in order to be registered within the system. Once you are registered, you will receive the health insurance card.
The health insurance card is credit card-sized and shows your name, CPR number and your doctor’s contact information. Once you are registered, the card will be sent by your municipal authority.
You must always present your health insurance card when visiting the doctor, hospital, municipal offices and many other places. The card can also serve as identification in cases where picture ID is not required.
A new Health Insurance Card can be ordered online
If you need a new Health Insurance Card, you can order it online. The price of a new card is 200 DKK (2018), and you can pay with Dankort/Visa.
The new card is free if you move to a new address, or if your existing card is over four years old and is cracked or split.
